Custom bats
Do you make custom cricket bats in Sydney?
Yes. Every JPGavan custom bat is made by hand at JPG HQ, our workshop in Rydalmere, Sydney. Josh has been making bats under the JPGavan name since 2012, and the workshop has been in Rydalmere since 2024. You choose the willow grade, weight, shape, sweet spot, handle and grip, and your bat is pressed and shaped by hand to those specs.
How do I get a custom bat?
Two ways. Design it online through the custom shop and we'll make it to your specs and post it. Or book a bat-making session and watch it made in front of you at the bench, walking out with the finished bat the same day.
How long does a custom bat take?
Please allow 2 weeks for us to make and send your bat. This includes knocking in if you've added it. If you'd rather not wait, a bat-making session gets you a finished bat the same day.
Can I watch my bat being made?
Yes. Book a bat-making session and your bat is shaped in front of you at the bench in about 90 minutes, you pick the cleft yourself and walk out with the finished bat the same day. A $50 deposit books the session and is credited toward your bat.
What does a custom cricket bat cost?
Custom English willow bats start at $499 for Grade 3, and run to $1,749 for our Featherblade players-grade willow, with Grade 2, Grade 1 and Grade 1+ in between.
What if the bat doesn't feel right?
Every custom bat is covered by our free 30-day reshape guarantee. If it doesn't sit right in your hands once you've used it, it comes back to the bench and we adjust the weight, shape or handle free of charge within 30 days.
Knocking in, repairs and care
How much does knocking in cost?
Knocking in is $80 and is separate to the cost of your bat. All knocking in is done in-house on our own knocking-in machine. If you add it to a custom bat order it's included within the 2 week build time.
Do you repair cricket bats, including other brands?
Yes. We repair, refurbish, rehandle, adjust shape and handle, and knock in bats, ours and every other brand. Most repairs take 4 to 5 working days. If you can bring it in on Monday we'll do everything possible to have it ready to collect on Friday before your next game.
Should I send my bat in a bat cover?
No, please don't send your bat in a bat cover. Covers get separated from bats around the workshop and we can't guarantee yours will come back to you. Post or drop off the bare bat only.
