Spend 2 hours with head bat maker and owner Josh Gavan making your own cricket bat at 8 Brodie Street, Rydalmere in Sydney. You will be shown all bat options before having the opportunity to handcraft the bat yourself under the watchful eye of Josh. Set up a time and come in! You can do as much of the whole shaping process as you'd like and Josh can take over wherever you want. At the end of the session you'll take home your brand new bat!

You can do as much or as little of the making as you want - Josh will expertly do the rest.

Maximum 3 people in the workshop during an appointment. See our bat grading and pricing here. Our clefts are cut for Long Blade, Short Handle and Small Mens sizes. If you’re likely to need a different size we may have to select a cleft and size it correctly before you come in. Just get in touch before your appointment.

Payment is not a deposit and the cost of the bat will be added once completed. Pressing and handling the cleft will already have been completed. No outside willow allowed. Overtime charged at $50 per 15 minutes

By definition clefts are raw material, they can come with slight split ends and faults. It's up to the bat maker to make the cleft work for the bat they're making - there is extra length and width to be able to make it work and make it into an awesome bat. 

Tools and machinery needed to turn this into a bat - the one most people don't have is a roller/press, most other making processes can be done by hand.

Grading:

Players: Lighter/Players willow. Grain structure unimportant as long as it performs

Grade 1+: 10+ straight, even, clean grains

Grade 1: 6-9 straight, even, clean grains

Grade 2: Some imperfections which do not effect performance

Grade 3: Some imperfections which do effect performance in some areas
